A new BMW R100R leaves the Bolt Motor Company workshop. And it’s not just any custom bike, but a bike that will be considered a delight by BMW purists everywhere. Read on if you want to know all the details about the #BOLT53, a 100% authentic boxer. Before we start telling you about the customisation process of this BMW R100, we have to talk about its owner. Classic BMW lover, former enduro champion and a person with a very clear vision.
The client came to our workshop knowing what he wanted and how he wanted it. The first thing was to find the base bike, a BMW R100R that was in very good condition.
We will never tire of repeating it. Choosing the right base bike is key to the final result. A bike that is up and running will always need less work and parts than one that has been sitting in a garage for I don’t know how many years.
Once we had a clear idea of what the chosen bike would be, we started to specify some aspects of the design so that the client would be 100% satisfied with the result. The client was always looking for a bike that blended scrambler aesthetics with the endurance of an enduro bike.
With the design clear, the next step was to find a good weight distribution to ensure an optimal riding experience. To do this, we also had to solve one of the boxer’s problems: braking. This was achieved by fitting a Brembo radial pump and floating discs from a Ducati Panigale with Brembo radial calipers and Goodridge racing hoses.
BMW R100R: Front axle
This bike has a front end from a ’98 Ducati Panigale. We have also fitted the oversized upper and lower seatpost, which we designed and CNC machined ourselves. Previously, we used to sell these seatposts on our website, but we don’t always have them in stock. If you are interested, you can send us an email to info@boltracer.com.
The electronics and electrics of this bike have been taken care of to the millimetre to ensure perfect behaviour in difficult terrain. As always, we have trusted Motogadget, the best on the market.
As for the engine, it has been completely overhauled. A crankcase supplement was added for more oil capacity and an extra radiator to make the engine run at more stable temperatures. The carburation of the bike has also been improved by installing Dell’Orto racing carburettors.
We have also ‘played’ a bit with the exhaust and have fitted homologated GPR silencers. With the rims we have also made improvements to the spokes and rims and fitted mixed trail tyres.
The Bolt Motor Company’s branding can be clearly seen in the subframe, perfectly balancing clean lines with optimum ride height for a comfortable and functional ride.
The paintwork was designed to look good and serve as a tribute to 50 years of Motorrad. The seat, made by Tapizados Llop, has a special treatment for rain and double embroidery.
A bike with impeccable looks, a 10-point finish and a 100 percent performance. And a very very demanding customer again happy to ride a UNIQUE Bolt.
