Suzuki DR Big //
#BOLT43

The Suzuki DR Big is one of the most iconic models of the 1990s. Even today, its second-hand market price remains high for a bike that’s over 20–25 years old — and that only happens with truly legendary motorcycles.
It all began in 1988–1989, when Suzuki launched the 750cc machine that quickly became a world-famous off-road bike. This was largely due to the fact that, despite its large displacement, it weighed less than 180 kg.
With the #BOLT43, we wanted to bring together two legends from the motorcycle world: Kevin Schwantz and a Suzuki DR Big. In other words, our goal was to create a Suzuki DR Big with a dirt track aesthetic as a tribute to the great Kevin Schwantz.
SUZUKI DR BIG, PIECE BY PIECE
To achieve this more racing-inspired look, we used the front end of a Suzuki GSX-R. That meant we had to lower the bike — the only way to give the build the right proportions and balance for a cohesive result.
This section also features a handcrafted radiator, made by our mechanics specifically for this project.
Knowing we didn’t want to hold anything back on this DR Big custom build, we fitted it with supermoto wheels. It was no easy task — adapting those wheels to the type of tires used on the #BOLT43 took some serious work.
Another highlight on the front end is the number plate fairing, fully designed and 3D-printed by our in-house team. Combined with the LED headlight, LED indicators, and the Motogadget digital speedometer, it’s the perfect finishing touch.
As for the tank, after testing several options, we chose one from a Honda Four K2, which perfectly matched the lines we were aiming for.
At the rear, you’ll find several 3D-printed custom pieces, including the side panels and the tail section with integrated LED lighting. The exhaust also deserves a special mention — not only was it handcrafted in-house, but the way it looks and sounds truly speaks for itself.
The swingarm was without a doubt the biggest headache of this project. We had the brilliant (and slightly crazy) idea to install a GSX-R rear swingarm, which required us to shorten the wheelbase. It took many hours of work, but the result — both in terms of looks and performance — is absolutely worth it.
The seat is a creation of Tapizados Llop, and once again, we made sure our signature design elements were present and bold.
On the electrical side, we relied once again on Motogadget, upgrading the ECU, wiring, and full indicator system.
The final touch comes with the paintwork, making it crystal clear who this bike was built to honor.
The #BOLT43 will always be remembered by the Bolt Motor Company team — café racer and custom motorcycle specialists — for two reasons:
First, because it’s completely different from anything we usually build.
And second, because it was the project we were just about to start when the pandemic hit and brought everything to a halt.
We already had the materials and the motivation, so — taking every necessary health precaution — we decided not to stop. We pushed forward, staying true to our mission: making our clients’ dreams come to life.
