BMW K100 //
#BOLT60

We warn you that curves are coming. We present the #BOLT60, a BMW K100 of the year 86 in which we have taken care of every detail to the maximum. Normally, we reserve the tens for very special motorcycles and, this BMW K100, certainly is.
Bolt Motor Company has positioned itself as one of the best preparers in BMW K100 because we have found a very balanced aesthetic. Our K100s maintain the width and presence of the front, but with a much lighter, harmonious and aesthetic rear. That’s why, although we change many details on every BMW K100 we make, the lines are always similar.
This was not the case with this bike. I wanted something wild, very radical and striking, where every part and every piece would stand out on its own. Normally, it’s our design team’s job to bring the client’s ideas to life, but in this case it wasn’t like that. The whole team was stunned when a freehand drawing of how they wanted the bike arrived at the workshop. It was a drawing ready to frame, where every detail came to life. From that moment on, our goal was to bring that drawing to life.
LOCATE THE MOTORBIKE
The first step was to find a second hand BMW K100 that gave us enough guarantees to start a project of this magnitude. It is a huge mistake to start the house from the roof. There is no point in having a beautiful bike whose performance is not what it should be.
Once we had the bike in the workshop, the first step was to study the measurements of the design proposed by the customer to make sure it would be comfortable to ride.
FRONT TRAIN
If you are looking for a racing style, the Öhlins GP front end with floating discs is the best option. Add to that Brembo gold series brake calipers, Brembo brake pumps and a set of half handlebars, and the result is spectacular.
In this bike we have used the best of the best in terms of spare parts, but the result would not be the same without the hands of our team. To achieve this result and to fit each part correctly, many hours and many inventions were needed. They had to lighten the axle, machine the seat posts and change all the hoses.
Undoubtedly, one of the most striking things of this bike are the controls. We had to design and 3D print a support to place the Motogadget speedometer in this aesthetic way. Last generation button panels have been added.
One of the great challenges of the front is, without a doubt, the mounting of a steering damper. The idea was to recreate the BMW Braun, that famous bike created by the genius of Cobas together with BMW. As a curious fact, you may be interested to know that this shock absorber belonged to the Aspar Team.
Another job that has kept the whole team on tenterhooks is the machining of the steering shaft. Visually it looks spectacular, but the work behind it is almost insane.
CENTRAL PART
The king of the central part is the tank. It is an original tank that we modified with some skirts to hide the radiator. Also, we get that the line that is formed with the subframe is much more harmonious.
Angel, from Airbrush Custom, has been in charge of making this tank look like this. For this, he has spent many hours in an incredible airbrushing work playing with the mythicalcolors of the BMW M Series.
The seat, made by Tapizados Llop, also plays with the dominant colors of this bike thanks to its double embroidery. The seat is perfectly coupled to the tail, designed and made in 3D by our team.
REAR PART
Here is where we have to make a special mention to the subframe, where we have opted for a cross-tube structure. Also, look at the detail of the light integrated in the subframe. How cool is that?
For the rear suspension we have again relied on Öhlins and its Pro seriesshock absorber with external bottle. If you want a 100% Racing result, you can ‘t mount another one.
ELECTRONICS AND MECHANICS
The electronic part has been key to modify the behavior of the engine. The entire electrical installation has been changed and improved, adding Motogadget components for a perfect harmony between performance and aesthetics.
As for the mechanics, here we have done some real feats of skill. In fact, we almost prefer to keep them to ourselves. What we do want to tell you is that we have managed to make the performance of this bike go according to its aesthetics. For this, the assembly of our particular intake manifold has played a key role. In this way, we get the four-cylinder to “breathe” much better.
The #BOLT60 has been a tough bike, which has been hard to get out and we have needed many hours of work. We know that we have tested the patience of the customer on more than one occasion because the times have gone a little longer than we expected, but it is that making a work of art like this is not fast or easy. In the end the final result was worth every day of waiting. We have managed to give life to a unique and super special bike, just like its owner. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have done customizing it.
